經文:
14:16 我要求父，父就另外賜給你們一位保惠師（或譯：訓慰師；下同），叫他永遠與你們同在，
14:17 就是真理的聖靈，乃世人不能接受的；因為不見他，也不認識他。你們卻認識他，因他常與你們同在，也要在你們�面。
14:18 我不撇下你們為孤兒，我必到你們這�來。
14:19 還有不多的時候，世人不再看見我，你們卻看見我；因為我活著，你們也要活著。
14:20 到那日，你們就知道我在父�面，你們在我�面，我也在你們�面。
默想: 當主耶穌要離開我們到父那裡去之時，耶穌應許將要賜下聖靈來到我們當中，與我們同在，這聖靈就是保惠師。這保惠師，是什麼呢？保惠是就是幫助者、保護者、是訓慰師、安慰者，也是真理的靈。
耶穌知道當祂離開之後，信徒不是遇到平坦的道路，而是一條艱難、挑戰的路，如果沒有上帝的幫助與同在，所有的人將無法面對這些挑戰。為了幫助信徒得以在各樣的處境中，能堅定的依靠上帝，所以耶穌特別求上帝賜下聖靈。使我們可以放膽地來到聖靈面前，求祂加給我們智慧和能力，作為我們隨時的安慰。
同時聖靈也教導我們認識上帝的真理使我們能夠明白主耶穌所說過的話。若沒有聖靈對我們的光照引導，我們便無法明白耶穌對我們的所說的話，也沒有辦法了解、領受聖經的真理。
聖靈來，也會催逼我們為自己的罪悔改，聖靈會在我們的心中提醒我們，顯明我們的過犯，使我們在聖靈的工作下，向主真誠的悔改。
雖然耶穌離開了門徒，但是門徒並不孤單，因為有聖靈賜下與門徒同在。今天我們在自己的處境中也是如此，雖然我們看不到耶穌，聽不到耶穌，但是，我們有聖靈的同在，祂要引導我們、安慰、教導我們使我們能夠遵行上帝的旨意。這是耶穌離開時，所賜下寶貴的應許。
題目: 在本章經文中耶穌給門徒有那些應許呢？
14:1 「你們心裡不要憂愁；你們信 神，也當信我。
"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.
14:2 在我父的家裡有許多住處；若是沒有，我就早已告訴你們了。我去原是為你們預備地方去。
In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
14:3 我若去為你們預備了地方，就必再來接你們到我那裡去，我在哪裡，叫你們也在那裡。
And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.
14:4 我往哪裡去，你們知道；那條路，你們也知道（有古卷：我往哪裡去，你們知道那條路）。」
And you know the way where I am going."
14:5 多馬對他說：「主啊，我們不知道你往哪裡去，怎麼知道那條路呢？」
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?"
14:6 耶穌說：「我就是道路、真理、生命；若不藉著我，沒有人能到父那裡去。
Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but by me.
14:7 你們若認識我，也就認識我的父。從今以後，你們認識他，並且已經看見他。」
If you had known me, you would have known my Father also; henceforth you know him and have seen him."
14:8 腓力對他說：「求主將父顯給我們看，我們就知足了。」
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied."
14:9 耶穌對他說：「腓力，我與你們同在這樣長久，你還不認識我嗎？人看見了我，就是看見了父；你怎麼說『將父顯給我們看』呢？
Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you do not know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father; how can you say, `Show us the Father'?
14:10 我在父裡面，父在我裡面，你不信嗎？我對你們所說的話，不是憑著自己說的，乃是住在我裡面的父做他自己的事。
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority; but the Father who dwells in me does his works.
14:11 你們當信我，我在父裡面，父在我裡面；即或不信，也當因我所做的事信我。
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father in me; or else believe me for the sake of the works themselves.
14:12 我實實在在地告訴你們，我所做的事，信我的人也要做，並且要做比這更大的事，因為我往父那裡去。
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to the Father.
14:13 你們奉我的名無論求甚麼，我必成就，叫父因兒子得榮耀。
Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it, that the Father may be glorified in the Son;
14:14 你們若奉我的名求甚麼，我必成就。」
if you ask anything in my name, I will do it.
14:15 「你們若愛我，就必遵守我的命令。
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments.
14:16 我要求父，父就另外賜給你們一位保惠師（或譯：訓慰師；下同），叫他永遠與你們同在，
And I will pray the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, to be with you for ever,
14:17 就是真理的聖靈，乃世人不能接受的；因為不見他，也不認識他。你們卻認識他，因他常與你們同在，也要在你們裡面。
even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him; you know him, for he dwells with you, and will be in you.
14:18 我不撇下你們為孤兒，我必到你們這裡來。
"I will not leave you desolate; I will come to you.
14:19 還有不多的時候，世人不再看見我，你們卻看見我；因為我活著，你們也要活著。
Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more, but you will see me; because I live, you will live also.
14:20 到那日，你們就知道我在父裡面，你們在我裡面，我也在你們裡面。
In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.
14:21 有了我的命令又遵守的，這人就是愛我的；愛我的必蒙我父愛他，我也要愛他，並且要向他顯現。」
He who has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me; and he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him."
14:22 猶大（不是加略人猶大）問耶穌說：「主啊，為甚麼要向我們顯現，不向世人顯現呢？」
Judas (not Iscariot) said to him, "Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?"
14:23 耶穌回答說：「人若愛我，就必遵守我的道；我父也必愛他，並且我們要到他那裡去，與他同住。
Jesus answered him, "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
14:24 不愛我的人就不遵守我的道。你們所聽見的道不是我的，乃是差我來之父的道。
He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me.
14:25 「我還與你們同住的時候，已將這些話對你們說了。
"These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you.
14:26 但保惠師，就是父因我的名所要差來的聖靈，他要將一切的事指教你們，並且要叫你們想起我對你們所說的一切話。
But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
14:27 我留下平安給你們；我將我的平安賜給你們。我所賜的，不像世人所賜的。你們心裡不要憂愁，也不要膽怯。
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
14:28 你們聽見我對你們說了，我去還要到你們這裡來。你們若愛我，因我到父那裡去，就必喜樂，因為父是比我大的。
You heard me say to you, `I go away, and I will come to you.' If you loved me, you would have rejoiced, because I go to the Father; for the Father is greater than I.
14:29 現在事情還沒有成就，我預先告訴你們，叫你們到事情成就的時候就可以信。
And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place, you may believe.
14:30 以後我不再和你們多說話，因為這世界的王將到。他在我裡面是毫無所有；
I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me;
14:31 但要叫世人知道我愛父，並且父怎樣吩咐我，我就怎樣行。起來，我們走吧！」
but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us go hence.
