經文: 約十六7-11
16:7 然而，我將真情告訴你們，我去是與你們有益的；我若不去，保惠師就不到你們這裡來；我若去，就差他來。
16:8 他既來了，就要叫世人為罪、為義、為審判，自己責備自己。
16:9 為罪，是因他們不信我；
16:10 為義，是因我往父那裡去，你們就不再見我；
16:11 為審判，是因這世界的王受了審判。
默想: 耶穌說，聖靈既來了，「就要叫世人為罪、為義、為審判，自己責備自己。」這裡所謂的「責備」含有「證明有罪」或「定罪」的意思。
而「為罪」是指聖靈能夠使世人認識自己罪的存在與嚴重性，並且從內心明自自己是抗拒神、並且否認罪行的人，若無聖靈的工作，人不會承認自己是有罪的，聖靈來就是讓人可以在神的面為罪自責。
「為義」是說聖靈使人在上帝的面前，再也無法誇口自己的義，聖靈光照我們，讓我們看見自己的敗壞，使人無法自以為義，轉而承認上帝為義。就是承認耶穌基督代替我們死在十字架上所成就的義，才是真正的義。
「為審判」意指「被定罪」，聖靈使我們知道，將來上帝面前，罪必然受到譴責，犯罪的人，必然受審判，任何人也不能逃脫。聖靈提醒我們，將來每一個人都必須來到上帝的審判台前，接受審判，我們如何通過上帝全能、全知的審判呢？唯有通過聖靈保惠師的幫助(幫助我們認罪、悔改、接受耶穌)，才能坦然無懼地來到審判台前。
簡單的來說，聖靈來的首要工作就是使人知罪、認罪，而最大的罪，就是不信耶穌。聖靈來的首要工作，就是使人能夠認清自己的罪，來悔改歸向耶穌。第二個重要的工作，就是要世人「為義，自己責備自己」，當人唯有知罪的時候，才會知道依靠自己不能達到上帝的標準(義)，在聖靈的引導之下，人才能完全地相信、依靠耶穌，得以被神稱為義。
題目: 主耶穌在這段經文中教導門徒，聖靈來會做那些事呢？
16:1 「我已將這些事告訴你們，使你們不至於跌倒。
"I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away.
16:2 人要把你們趕出會堂，並且時候將到，凡殺你們的就以為是事奉 神。
They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.
16:3 他們這樣行，是因未曾認識父，也未曾認識我。
And they will do this because they have not known the Father, nor me.
16:4 我將這事告訴你們，是叫你們到了時候可以想起我對你們說過了。」「我起先沒有將這事告訴你們，因為我與你們同在。
But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them. "I did not say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you.
16:5 現今我往差我來的父那裡去，你們中間並沒有人問我：『你往哪裡去？』
But now I am going to him who sent me; yet none of you asks me, `Where are you going?'
16:6 只因我將這事告訴你們，你們就滿心憂愁。
But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your hearts.
16:7 然而，我將真情告訴你們，我去是與你們有益的；我若不去，保惠師就不到你們這裡來；我若去，就差他來。
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
16:8 他既來了，就要叫世人為罪、為義、為審判，自己責備自己。
And when he comes, he will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
16:9 為罪，是因他們不信我；
concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
16:10 為義，是因我往父那裡去，你們就不再見我；
concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no more;
16:11 為審判，是因這世界的王受了審判。
concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
16:12 「我還有好些事要告訴你們，但你們現在擔當不了（或譯：不能領會）。
"I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
16:13 只等真理的聖靈來了，他要引導你們明白（原文是進入）一切的真理；因為他不是憑自己說的，乃是把他所聽見的都說出來，並要把將來的事告訴你們。
When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
16:14 他要榮耀我，因為他要將受於我的告訴你們。
He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
16:15 凡父所有的，都是我的；所以我說，他要將受於我的告訴你們。」
All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
16:16 「等不多時，你們就不得見我；再等不多時，你們還要見我。」
"A little while, and you will see me no more; again a little while, and you will see me."
16:17 有幾個門徒就彼此說：「他對我們說：『等不多時，你們就不得見我；再等不多時，你們還要見我』；又說：『因我往父那裡去。』這是甚麼意思呢？」
Some of his disciples said to one another, "What is this that he says to us, `A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'; and, `because I go to the Father'?"
16:18 門徒彼此說：「他說『等不多時』到底是甚麼意思呢？我們不明白他所說的話。」
They said, "What does he mean by `a little while'? We do not know what he means."
16:19 耶穌看出他們要問他，就說：「我說『等不多時，你們就不得見我；再等不多時，你們還要見我』，你們為這話彼此相問嗎？
Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him; so he said to them, "Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, `A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me'?
16:20 我實實在在地告訴你們，你們將要痛哭、哀號，世人倒要喜樂；你們將要憂愁，然而你們的憂愁要變為喜樂。
Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy.
16:21 婦人生產的時候就憂愁，因為她的時候到了；既生了孩子，就不再記念那苦楚，因為歡喜世上生了一個人。
When a woman is in travail she has sorrow, because her hour has come; but when she is delivered of the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a child is born into the world.
16:22 你們現在也是憂愁，但我要再見你們，你們的心就喜樂了；這喜樂也沒有人能奪去。
So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
16:23 到那日，你們甚麼也就不問我了。我實實在在地告訴你們，你們若向父求甚麼，他必因我的名賜給你們。
In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name.
16:24 向來你們沒有奉我的名求甚麼，如今你們求，就必得著，叫你們的喜樂可以滿足。」
Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
16:25 「這些事，我是用比喻對你們說的；時候將到，我不再用比喻對你們說，乃要將父明明地告訴你們。
"I have said this to you in figures; the hour is coming when I shall no longer speak to you in figures but tell you plainly of the Father.
16:26 到那日，你們要奉我的名祈求；我並不對你們說，我要為你們求父。
In that day you will ask in my name; and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;
16:27 父自己愛你們；因為你們已經愛我，又信我是從父出來的。
for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from the Father.
16:28 我從父出來，到了世界；我又離開世界，往父那裡去。」
I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and going to the Father."
16:29 門徒說：「如今你是明說，並不用比喻了。
His disciples said, "Ah, now you are speaking plainly, not in any figure!
16:30 現在我們曉得你凡事都知道，也不用人問你，因此我們信你是從 神出來的。」
Now we know that you know all things, and need none to question you; by this we believe that you came from God."
16:31 耶穌說：「現在你們信嗎？
Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?
16:32 看哪，時候將到，且是已經到了，你們要分散，各歸自己的地方去，留下我獨自一人；其實我不是獨自一人，因為有父與我同在。
The hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, every man to his home, and will leave me alone; yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
16:33 我將這些事告訴你們，是要叫你們在我裡面有平安。在世上，你們有苦難；但你們可以放心，我已經勝了世界。」
I have said this to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."
