12:1 約伯回答說：
12:2 你們真是子民哪，你們死亡，智慧也就滅沒了。
12:3 但我也有聰明，與你們一樣，並非不及你們。你們所說的，誰不知道呢？
12:4 我這求告 神、蒙他應允的人竟成了朋友所譏笑的；公義完全人竟受了人的譏笑。
默想: 約伯在苦難中，感覺到自己竟成了朋友所譏笑的(4)。約伯反駁說他是頭「驢子」(十一12)的污衊，他說「我也有聰明，與你們一樣。」(3)對約伯而言，他的內心是痛苦的，因為「我這求告上帝，蒙他應允的人，竟成了朋友所譏笑的；公義完全人，竟受了人的譏笑。」(4)朋友們以自己認為有智慧的話語來勸約伯認罪，但是，他們並不了解約伯的處境，也不明白災難發生的緣由，他們給約伯的感覺是讓他覺得被貶抑、羞辱。所以他說「公義完全人竟受了人的譏笑。」朋友的言語，對約伯而言，完全沒有安慰、扶持的效果。
約伯對朋友的感覺，很值的我們反省，當我們看到別人遇到困難挫折，我們有時候想要好言相勸，但是我們的好言，若不注意，常常帶著我們自己強烈的主觀或價值判斷。若我們沒有了解當事人發生事情的真正原因，又沒有同理心，那麼真的可能就會像約伯的朋友一樣，自認為是出於好心好意，結果反而帶給別人貶抑與傷害。
題目: 我們當如何避免對遭遇災禍者的藐視與譏笑呢？
12:1 約伯回答說：
And Job answered and said,
12:2 你們真是子民哪，你們死亡，智慧也就滅沒了。
No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.
12:3 但我也有聰明，與你們一樣，並非不及你們。你們所說的，誰不知道呢？
But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these? understanding: Heb. an heart I am...: Heb. I fall not lower than you who...: Heb. with whom are not such as these?
12:4 我這求告 神、蒙他應允的人竟成了朋友所譏笑的；公義完全人竟受了人的譏笑。
I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.
12:5 安逸的人心裡藐視災禍；這災禍常常等待滑腳的人。
He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.
12:6 強盜的帳棚興旺，惹 神的人穩固， 神多將財物送到他們手中。
The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly .
12:7 你且問走獸，走獸必指教你；又問空中的飛鳥，飛鳥必告訴你；
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:
12:8 或與地說話，地必指教你；海中的魚也必向你說明。
Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.
12:9 看這一切，誰不知道是耶和華的手做成的呢？
Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?
12:10 凡活物的生命和人類的氣息都在他手中。
In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. soul: or, life all...: Heb. all flesh of man
12:11 耳朵豈不試驗言語，正如上膛嘗食物嗎？
Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat? mouth: Heb. palate
12:12 年老的有智慧；壽高的有知識。
With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.
12:13 在 神有智慧和能力；他有謀略和知識。
With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding. With...: that is, With God
12:14 他拆毀的，就不能再建造；他捆住人，便不得開釋。
Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening. up: Heb. upon
12:15 他把水留住，水便枯乾；他再發出水來，水就翻地。
Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.
12:16 在他有能力和智慧，被誘惑的與誘惑人的都是屬他。
With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.
12:17 他把謀士剝衣擄去，又使審判官變成愚人。
He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.
12:18 他放鬆君王的綁，又用帶子捆他們的腰。
He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.
12:19 他把祭司剝衣擄去，又使有能的人傾敗。
He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.
12:20 他廢去忠信人的講論，又奪去老人的聰明。
He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged. speech...: Heb. lip of the faithful
12:21 他使君王蒙羞被辱，放鬆有力之人的腰帶。
He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty. weakeneth...: or, looseth the girdle of the strong
12:22 他將深奧的事從黑暗中彰顯，使死蔭顯為光明。
He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.
12:23 他使邦國興旺而又毀滅；他使邦國開廣而又擄去。
He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again . straiteneth: Heb. leadeth in
12:24 他將地上民中首領的聰明奪去，使他們在荒廢無路之地漂流；
He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.
12:25 他們無光，在黑暗中摸索，又使他們東倒西歪，像醉酒的人一樣。
They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man . stagger: Heb. Wander
