Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days?

Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof . feed...: or, feed them

They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow's ox for a pledge.

They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together.

Behold, as wild asses in the desert, go they forth to their work; rising betimes for a prey: the wilderness yieldeth food for them and for their children.

They reap every one his corn in the field: and they gather the vintage of the wicked. corn: Heb. mingled corn, or, dredge they gather...: Heb. the wicked gather the vintage

They cause the naked to lodge without clothing, that they have no covering in the cold.

They are wet with the showers of the mountains, and embrace the rock for want of a shelter.

They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

They cause him to go naked without clothing, and they take away the sheaf from the hungry;

Which make oil within their walls, and tread their winepresses, and suffer thirst.

Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them .

They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

The murderer rising with the light killeth the poor and needy, and in the night is as a thief.

The eye also of the adulterer waiteth for the twilight, saying, No eye shall see me: and disguiseth his face. disguiseth...: Heb. setteth his face in secret

In the dark they dig through houses, which they had marked for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.

For the morning is to them even as the shadow of death: if one know them, they are in the terrors of the shadow of death.

He is swift as the waters; their portion is cursed in the earth: he beholdeth not the way of the vineyards.

Drought and heat consume the snow waters: so doth the grave those which have sinned. consume: Heb. violently take

The womb shall forget him; the worm shall feed sweetly on him; he shall be no more remembered; and wickedness shall be broken as a tree.

He evil entreateth the barren that beareth not: and doeth not good to the widow.

He draweth also the mighty with his power: he riseth up, and no man is sure of life. no...: or, he trusteth not his own life

Though it be given him to be in safety, whereon he resteth; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

They are exalted for a little while, but are gone and brought low; they are taken out of the way as all other , and cut off as the tops of the ears of corn. are gone: Heb. are not taken...: Heb. closed up

And if it be not so now, who will make me a liar, and make my speech nothing worth?

23:1

Then Job answered and said,

Even to day is my complaint bitter: my stroke is heavier than my groaning. stroke: Heb. hand

Oh that I knew where I might find him! that I might come even to his seat!

I would order my cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me.

Will he plead against me with his great power? No; but he would put strength in me.

There the righteous might dispute with him; so should I be delivered for ever from my judge.

Behold, I go forward, but he is not there ; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:

On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him : he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him :

But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold. that...: Heb. that is with me

My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined.

Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food . esteemed: Heb. hid, or, laid up my...: or, my appointed portion

But he is in one mind , and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: and many such things are with him.

Therefore am I troubled at his presence: when I consider, I am afraid of him.

For God maketh my heart soft, and the Almighty troubleth me:

Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither hath he covered the darkness from my face.

But Job answered and said,

Hear diligently my speech, and let this be your consolations.

Suffer me that I may speak; and after that I have spoken, mock on.

As for me, is my complaint to man? and if it were so , why should not my spirit be troubled? troubled: Heb. shortened?

Mark me, and be astonished, and lay your hand upon your mouth. Mark...: Heb. Look unto me

Even when I remember I am afraid, and trembling taketh hold on my flesh.

Wherefore do the wicked live, become old, yea, are mighty in power?

Their seed is established in their sight with them, and their offspring before their eyes.

Their houses are safe from fear, neither is the rod of God upon them. safe...: Heb. peace from

Their bull gendereth, and faileth not; their cow calveth, and casteth not her calf.

They send forth their little ones like a flock, and their children dance.

They take the timbrel and harp, and rejoice at the sound of the organ.

They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave. in wealth: or, in mirth

Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.

What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

Lo, their good is not in their hand: the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

How oft is the candle of the wicked put out! and how oft cometh their destruction upon them! God distributeth sorrows in his anger. candle: or, lamp

They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away. carrieth: Heb. stealeth

God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know it . his iniquity: that is, the punishment of his iniquity

His eyes shall see his destruction, and he shall drink of the wrath of the Almighty.

For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the number of his months is cut off in the midst?

Shall any teach God knowledge? seeing he judgeth those that are high.

One dieth in his full strength, being wholly at ease and quiet. his...: Heb. his very, or, the strength of, his perfection

His breasts are full of milk, and his bones are moistened with marrow. breasts: or, milk pails
21:25 有人至死心中痛苦,終身未嘗福樂的滋味;

And another dieth in the bitterness of his soul, and never eateth with pleasure.

They shall lie down alike in the dust, and the worms shall cover them.

Behold, I know your thoughts, and the devices which ye wrongfully imagine against me.

For ye say, Where is the house of the prince? and where are the dwelling places of the wicked? the dwelling...: Heb. the tent of the tabernacles

Have ye not asked them that go by the way? and do ye not know their tokens,

That the wicked is reserved to the day of destruction? they shall be brought forth to the day of wrath. wrath: Heb. wraths

Who shall declare his way to his face? and who shall repay him what he hath done?

Yet shall he be brought to the grave, and shall remain in the tomb. grave: Heb. graves remain...: Heb. watch in the heap

The clods of the valley shall be sweet unto him, and every man shall draw after him, as there are innumerable before him.

How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood? falsehood: Heb. transgression?

Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

Therefore do my thoughts cause me to answer, and for this I make haste. I make...: Heb. my haste is in me

I have heard the check of my reproach, and the spirit of my understanding causeth me to answer.

Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment? short: Heb. from near

Though his excellency mount up to the heavens, and his head reach unto the clouds; clouds: Heb. cloud

Yet he shall perish for ever like his own dung: they which have seen him shall say, Where is he?

19:23
惟願我的言語現在寫上,都記錄在書上;
19:24
19:28
你們若說:我們逼迫他要何等地重呢?惹事的根乃在乎他;
19:29

Then Job answered and said,

How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words?

These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me. make...: or, harden yourselves against me

And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself.

If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach:

Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net.

Behold, I cry out of wrong, but I am not heard: I cry aloud, but there is no judgment. wrong: or, violence

He hath fenced up my way that I cannot pass, and he hath set darkness in my paths.

He hath stripped me of my glory, and taken the crown from my head.

He hath destroyed me on every side, and I am gone: and mine hope hath he removed like a tree.

He hath also kindled his wrath against me, and he counteth me unto him as one of his enemies.

His troops come together, and raise up their way against me, and encamp round about my tabernacle.

He hath put my brethren far from me, and mine acquaintance are verily estranged from me.

My kinsfolk have failed, and my familiar friends have forgotten me.

They that dwell in mine house, and my maids, count me for a stranger: I am an alien in their sight.

I called my servant, and he gave me no answer; I intreated him with my mouth.

My breath is strange to my wife, though I intreated for the children's sake of mine own body. mine...: Heb. my belly

Yea, young children despised me; I arose, and they spake against me. young...: or, the wicked

All my inward friends abhorred me: and they whom I loved are turned against me. my...: Heb. the men of my secret

My bone cleaveth to my skin and to my flesh, and I am escaped with the skin of my teeth. and to: or, as to

Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me.

Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh?
19:23 惟願我的言語現在寫上,都記錄在書上;

Oh that my words were now written! oh that they were printed in a book! Oh...: Heb. Who will give, etc

That they were graven with an iron pen and lead in the rock for ever!

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

And though after my skin worms destroy this body , yet in my flesh shall I see God: And...: or, After I shall awake, though this body be destroyed, yet out of my flesh

Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. another: Heb. a stranger though...: or, my reins within me are consumed with earnest desire (for that day) within...: Heb. in my bosom
19:28 你們若說:我們逼迫他要何等地重呢?惹事的根乃在乎他;

But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? seeing...: or, and what root of matter is found in me?

Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. He...: Heb. They shall drive him

They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted. went...: or, lived with him were...: Heb. laid hold on horror

Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.
