39:9 野牛豈肯服事你？豈肯住在你的槽旁？
39:10 你豈能用套繩將野牛籠在犁溝之間？牠豈肯隨你耙山谷之地？
39:11 豈可因牠的力大就倚靠牠？豈可把你的工交給牠做嗎？
39:12 豈可信靠牠把你的糧食運到家，又收聚你禾場上的穀嗎？
默想: 野牛與家牛有很大的不同，雖然從外表、色澤、性情上來看是牛。力氣大，又跑得很快。但是野牛即使從小被人馴養，也無法被馴化。它們的牛角大小與家牛都不相同。所以家牛可以被訓練來拉犁，但是野牛卻沒有辦法。野牛雖與家牛在外形上相似，性情卻很不一樣，是誰給他們不同的性情呢？當然是來自上帝的創造。上帝用野牛與家牛的不同來詢問約伯，你能用它來為自己做什麼事嗎？犁田？運糧？服侍你？都不行。雖然它的力氣很大，但是人卻沒有辦法使用它，這種性情上的差異是上帝所給的，人無力改變，因為人是有限的。而且約伯的知識也無法了解，上帝如何使這兩者不同。上帝以此來說明上帝的大能與智慧，唯有祂俱有全備的知識，上帝對於自己所造自然界的掌握，這遠遠超過約伯所能理解、體會的，在這其中，約伯能說什麼？只能承認自己是無知的。
約伯對上帝所做的自然界的認識是如此地有限，又如何能測度上帝的智慧與心意呢？在此有一種意含，約伯不單在自然界上的知識，完全無法了解上帝如何創造這一切；在道德、苦難的議題上，何嚐不是如此。上帝都知道，但是約伯完全不知道。
題目: 你對於本章中有關野牛的描述有何感想呢？
39:1 山巖間的野山羊幾時生產，你知道嗎？母鹿下犢之期，你能察定嗎？
Knowest thou the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth? or canst thou mark when the hinds do calve?
39:2 牠們懷胎的月數，你能數算嗎？牠們幾時生產，你能曉得嗎？
Canst thou number the months that they fulfil? or knowest thou the time when they bring forth?
39:3 牠們屈身，將子生下，就除掉疼痛。
They bow themselves, they bring forth their young ones, they cast out their sorrows.
39:4 這子漸漸肥壯，在荒野長大，去而不回。
Their young ones are in good liking, they grow up with corn; they go forth, and return not unto them.
39:5 誰放野驢出去自由？誰解開快驢的繩索？
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?
39:6 我使曠野作牠的住處，使鹹地當牠的居所。
Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings. barren...: Heb. salt places
39:7 牠嗤笑城內的喧嚷，不聽趕牲口的喝聲。
He scorneth the multitude of the city, neither regardeth he the crying of the driver. of the driver: Heb. of the exactor
39:8 遍山是牠的草場；牠尋找各樣青綠之物。
The range of the mountains is his pasture, and he searcheth after every green thing.
39:9 野牛豈肯服事你？豈肯住在你的槽旁？
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib?
39:10 你豈能用套繩將野牛籠在犁溝之間？牠豈肯隨你耙山谷之地？
Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee?
39:11 豈可因牠的力大就倚靠牠？豈可把你的工交給牠做嗎？
Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him?
39:12 豈可信靠牠把你的糧食運到家，又收聚你禾場上的穀嗎？
Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
39:13 鴕鳥的翅膀歡然搧展，豈是顯慈愛的翎毛和羽毛嗎？
Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? or wings and feathers unto the ostrich? wings and...: or, the feathers of the stork and ostrich
39:14 因牠把蛋留在地上，在塵土中使得溫暖；
Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, and warmeth them in dust,
39:15 卻想不到被腳踹碎，或被野獸踐踏。
And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them.
39:16 牠忍心待雛，似乎不是自己的；雖然徒受勞苦，也不為雛懼怕；
She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers: her labour is in vain without fear;
39:17 因為 神使牠沒有智慧，也未將悟性賜給牠。
Because God hath deprived her of wisdom, neither hath he imparted to her understanding.
39:18 牠幾時挺身展開翅膀，就嗤笑馬和騎馬的人。
What time she lifteth up herself on high, she scorneth the horse and his rider.
39:19 馬的大力是你所賜的嗎？牠頸項上挓挲的鬃是你給牠披上的嗎？
Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder?
39:20 是你叫牠跳躍像蝗蟲嗎？牠噴氣之威使人驚惶。
Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. terrible: Heb. terror
39:21 牠在谷中刨地，自喜其力；牠出去迎接佩帶兵器的人。
He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He paweth: or, His feet dig the armed...: Heb. the armour
39:22 牠嗤笑可怕的事並不驚惶，也不因刀劍退回。
He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.
39:23 箭袋和發亮的槍，並短槍在牠身上錚錚有聲。
The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield.
39:24 牠發猛烈的怒氣將地吞下；一聽角聲就不耐站立。
He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet.
39:25 角每發聲，牠說呵哈；牠從遠處聞著戰氣，又聽見軍長大發雷聲和兵丁吶喊。
He saith among the trumpets, Ha, ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
39:26 鷹雀飛翔，展開翅膀一直向南，豈是藉你的智慧嗎？
Doth the hawk fly by thy wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south?
39:27 大鷹上騰在高處搭窩，豈是聽你的吩咐嗎？
Doth the eagle mount up at thy command, and make her nest on high? at...: Heb. by thy mouth
39:28 牠住在山巖，以山峰和堅固之所為家，
She dwelleth and abideth on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place.
39:29 從那裡窺看食物，眼睛遠遠觀望。
From thence she seeketh the prey, and her eyes behold afar off.
39:30 牠的雛也咂血；被殺的人在哪裡，牠也在那裡。
Her young ones also suck up blood: and where the slain are , there is she.
