經文: 民數記 5:14 他丈夫生了疑恨的心,疑恨他,他是被玷污,或是他丈夫生了疑恨的心,疑恨他,他並沒有被玷污。

默想: 這段經文討論到,婚姻中如果發生疑忌或是外遇時,祭司如何介入,並且幫助處理這樣的婚姻困難。很明顯的,這是在上古以色列民族文化當中,重男輕女的一個表現。所有的處置,都只有考慮丈夫疑忌或是妻子外遇時之處置。對於妻子疑忌或是丈夫外遇時,要如何處置,卻完全沒有提及。到了新約,使徒保羅說,“並不分猶太人、希利尼人,自主的、為奴的,或男或女,因為你們在基督耶穌裡都成為一了。” (3:28) 在基督裡,所有的種族、社會、性別歧視都要消失,在基督裡,都要成為一了。但願在我們教會裡,這些歧視都被主的愛所化解。

題目: v.11-28 喝致咒詛苦水的目的是什麼?你有何看法?
5:1 耶和華曉諭摩西說:
The LORD said to Moses,
5:2
「你吩咐以色列人,使一切長大痲瘋的,患漏症的,並因死屍不潔淨的,都出營外去。
"Command the people of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, and every one having a discharge, and every one that is unclean through contact with the dead;
5:3
無論男女都要使他們出到營外,免得污穢他們的營;這營是我所住的。」
you shall put out both male and female, putting them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camp, in the midst of which I dwell."
5:4
以色列人就這樣行,使他們出到營外。耶和華怎樣吩咐摩西,以色列人就怎樣行了。
And the people of Israel did so, and drove them outside the camp; as the LORD said to Moses, so the people of Israel did.
5:5
耶和華對摩西說:
And the LORD said to Moses,
5:6
「你曉諭以色列人說:無論男女,若犯了人所常犯的罪,以致干犯耶和華,那人就有了罪。
"Say to the people of Israel, When a man or woman commits any of the sins that men commit by breaking faith with the LORD, and that person is guilty,
5:7
他要承認所犯的罪,將所虧負人的,如數賠還,另外加上五分之一,也歸與所虧負的人。
he shall confess his sin which he has committed; and he shall make full restitution for his wrong, adding a fifth to it, and giving it to him to whom he did the wrong.
5:8
那人若沒有親屬可受所賠還的,那所賠還的就要歸與服事耶和華的祭司;至於那為他贖罪的公羊是在外。
But if the man has no kinsman to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for wrong shall go to the LORD for the priest, in addition to the ram of atonement with which atonement is made for him.
5:9
以色列人一切的聖物中,所奉給祭司的舉祭都要歸與祭司。
And every offering, all the holy things of the people of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his;
5:10
各人所分別為聖的物,無論是甚麼,都要歸給祭司。」
and every man's holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives to the priest shall be his."
5:11
耶和華對摩西說:
And the LORD said to Moses,
5:12
「你曉諭以色列人說:人的妻若有邪行,得罪她丈夫,
"Say to the people of Israel, If any man's wife goes astray and acts unfaithfully against him,
5:13
有人與她行淫,事情嚴密,瞞過她丈夫,而且她被玷污,沒有作見證的人,當她行淫的時候也沒有被捉住,
if a man lies with her carnally, and it is hidden from the eyes of her husband, and she is undetected though she has defiled herself, and there is no witness against her, since she was not taken in the act;
5:14
她丈夫生了疑恨的心,疑恨她,她是被玷污,或是她丈夫生了疑恨的心,疑恨她,她並沒有被玷污,
and if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he is jealous of his wife who has defiled herself; or if the spirit of jealousy comes upon him, and he is jealous of his wife, though she has not defiled herself;
5:15
這人就要將妻送到祭司那裡,又為她帶著大麥麵伊法十分之一作供物,不可澆上油,也不可加上乳香;因為這是疑恨的素祭,是思念的素祭,使人思念罪孽。
then the man shall bring his wife to the priest, and bring the offering required of her, a tenth of an ephah of barley meal; he shall pour no oil upon it and put no frankincense on it, for it is a cereal offering of jealousy, a cereal offering of remembrance, bringing iniquity to remembrance.
5:16
「祭司要使那婦人近前來,站在耶和華面前。
"And the priest shall bring her near, and set her before the LORD;
5:17
祭司要把聖水盛在瓦器裡,又從帳幕的地上取點塵土,放在水中。
and the priest shall take holy water in an earthen vessel, and take some of the dust that is on the floor of the tabernacle and put it into the water.
5:18
祭司要叫那婦人蓬頭散髮,站在耶和華面前,把思念的素祭,就是疑恨的素祭,放在她手中。祭司手裡拿著致咒詛的苦水,
And the priest shall set the woman before the LORD, and unbind the hair of the woman's head, and place in her hands the cereal offering of remembrance, which is the cereal offering of jealousy. And in his hand the priest shall have the water of bitterness that brings the curse.
5:19
要叫婦人起誓,對她說:『若沒有人與你行淫,也未曾背著丈夫做污穢的事,你就免受這致咒詛苦水的災。
Then the priest shall make her take an oath, saying, `If no man has lain with you, and if you have not turned aside to uncleanness, while you were under your husband's authority, be free from this water of bitterness that brings the curse.
5:20
你若背著丈夫行了污穢的事,在你丈夫以外有人與你行淫,
But if you have gone astray, though you are under your husband's authority, and if you have defiled yourself, and some man other than your husband has lain with you,
5:21
(祭司叫婦人發咒起誓),願耶和華叫你大腿消瘦,肚腹發脹,使你在你民中被人咒詛,成了誓語;
then' (let the priest make the woman take the oath of the curse, and say to the woman) `the LORD make you an execration and an oath among your people, when the LORD makes your thigh fall away and your body swell;
5:22
並且這致咒詛的水入你的腸中,要叫你的肚腹發脹,大腿消瘦。』婦人要回答說:『阿們,阿們。』
may this water that brings the curse pass into your bowels and make your body swell and your thigh fall away.' And the woman shall say, `Amen, Amen.'
5:23
「祭司要寫這咒詛的話,將所寫的字抹在苦水裡,
"Then the priest shall write these curses in a book, and wash them off into the water of bitterness;
5:24
又叫婦人喝這致咒詛的苦水;這水要進入她裡面變苦了。
and he shall make the woman drink the water of bitterness that brings the curse, and the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain.
5:25
祭司要從婦人的手中取那疑恨的素祭,在耶和華面前搖一搖,拿到壇前;
And the priest shall take the cereal offering of jealousy out of the woman's hand, and shall wave the cereal offering before the LORD and bring it to the altar;
5:26
又要從素祭中取出一把,作為這事的紀念,燒在壇上,然後叫婦人喝這水。
and the priest shall take a handful of the cereal offering, as its memorial portion, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall make the woman drink the water.
5:27
叫她喝了以後,她若被玷污,得罪了丈夫,這致咒詛的水必進入她裡面變苦了,她的肚腹就要發脹,大腿就要消瘦,那婦人便要在他民中被人咒詛。
And when he has made her drink the water, then, if she has defiled herself and has acted unfaithfully against her husband, the water that brings the curse shall enter into her and cause bitter pain, and her body shall swell, and her thigh shall fall away, and the woman shall become an execration among her people.
5:28
若婦人沒有被玷污,卻是清潔的,就要免受這災,且要懷孕。
But if the woman has not defiled herself and is clean, then she shall be free and shall conceive children.
5:29
「妻子背著丈夫行了污穢的事,
"This is the law in cases of jealousy, when a wife, though under her husband's authority, goes astray and defiles herself,
5:30
或是人生了疑恨的心,疑恨他的妻,就有這疑恨的條例。那時他要叫婦人站在耶和華面前,祭司要在她身上照這條例而行。
or when the spirit of jealousy comes upon a man and he is jealous of his wife; then he shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law.
5:31
男人就為無罪,婦人必擔當自己的罪孽。」
The man shall be free from iniquity, but the woman shall bear her iniquity."

  1. 基督教台北真道教會977 期真理週報7 (98.8.21)的靈修指引,民數記5:11-31節。對這段經文有關「婚姻上的疑忌」有很詳係的說明。今轉載如下,供弟兄姐妹參考。

    『婚姻的和諧也很重要,不能容許不貞和疑恨。本段處理妻子清白與妻子不貞兩種情況。這類案件源於妻子的不忠(13、29節)或丈夫的懷疑嫉妒(因為沒有充分客觀證據,14、30節)。處理二者的步驟相同,神藉指定的儀式使祭司能作出公正的判斷。

    儀式有三個要素:象徵、動作及含義。「象徵」是以物質為表記,含有屬靈的意義。夫妻二人到祭司面前要帶素祭為供物(15節),供物用十分之一伊法(即2.2升)的大麥麵,不另加油和乳香,表明獻者的不潔和悲哀贖罪的心態(利5:11,通常加油和乳香代表喜樂和感恩,見利2:15)。誠然不貞和嫉妒使婚姻不潔並蒙上悲哀的陰影。這素祭對丈夫來說是疑恨的素祭(疑恨本身也是罪),對妻子來說是思念的祭,求神思念鑒察這件事,顯明她是否有罪。祭司要預備的「致咒詛的苦水」(18節),是用會幕外的聖水(出30:18)和塵土混合而成(17節),並加入婦人發咒起誓之字的墨水(23節)。聖水是為潔淨之用,吃塵土是代表咒詛(創3:14),加上婦人自願起的誓;若婦人是貞潔的,這水便會有潔淨的作用,將來可懷孕生子(28節);若婦人是不貞的,這水便有咒詛的作用,使她失去生育的功能(27節),這咒詛比死亡更甚(利20:10)。「動作」方面,婦人要蓬頭散髮(18節),表明她的不潔(利13:45)。起誓之後,她要喝咒詛的苦水,表示她認同這水所帶來的咒詛或潔淨。她喝水之前,祭司先在壇上燒一把疑恨的祭(26節),宣告神的同在,作公平的審判。

    以上所用的象徵和動作都有清楚的「含義」,藉此項儀式刻劃在以色列人眼前,警戒他們不可容許婚姻中的不貞和疑恨。真正使儀式有效的,仍然是全能的神,對這一群在曠野中曾目睹神榮耀的人,這是不容置疑的。他們絕不會以為咒詛的苦水本身有魔術的能力。』
