經文: 民數記 21:4-9 他們從何珥山起行，往紅海那條路走，要繞過以東地。百姓因這路難行，心中甚是煩躁，就怨讟神和摩西說：「你們為什麼把我們從埃及領出來、使我們死在曠野呢？這裡沒有糧，沒有水，我們的心厭惡這淡薄的食物。於是耶和華使火蛇進入百姓中間，蛇就咬他們。以色列人中死了許多。百姓到摩西那裡，說：我們怨讟耶和華和你，有罪了。求你禱告耶和華，叫這些蛇離開我們。於是摩西為百姓禱告。耶和華對摩西說：你製造一條火蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被咬的，一望這蛇，就必得活。摩西便製造一條銅蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被蛇咬的，一望這銅蛇就活了。
默想: 愛抱怨的以色列人這回是因為要繞過以東地的曠野路不好走，以色列人就心煩氣燥，發怨言謗讟耶和華與摩西，對於耶和華每日所賞賜的嗎哪，竟然嫌他淡薄無味。結果又惹耶和華發怒，讓火蛇進入營中咬死許多人。這回以色列人學會到摩西面前向耶和華認罪悔改，並請摩西為他們禱告，好讓火蛇離開他們。耶和華垂聽摩西替以色列人的禱告，但是並不是讓火蛇離開以色列人，而是吩咐摩西以銅製造一條火蛇，將火蛇掛在竿子上面，所有被火蛇咬傷的人，只要願意抬頭仰望掛在竿子上面銅製火蛇的人，就都得了醫治。到了新約時代，主耶穌以火蛇來象徵他自己。主耶穌說：摩西在曠野怎樣舉蛇，人子也必照樣被舉起來，叫一切信他的都得永生（或作：叫一切信的人在他裡面得永生）。(約3:14-15) 感謝主耶穌的恩典，完全無罪的主耶穌，為了要拯救我們脫離罪惡所帶來的致命傷害，他成了罪身的形狀，並為我們被掛在木頭上面犧牲捨命，好讓我們能夠仰望信靠他救贖的恩典。

21:1 住南地的迦南人亞拉得王，聽說以色列人從亞他林路來，就和以色列人爭戰，擄了他們幾個人。
When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the Negeb, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.
21:2 以色列人向耶和華發願說：「你若將這民交付我手，我就把他們的城邑盡行毀滅。」
And Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, "If thou wilt indeed give this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities."
21:3 耶和華應允了以色列人，把迦南人交付他們，他們就把迦南人和迦南人的城邑盡行毀滅。那地方的名便叫何珥瑪（何珥瑪就是毀滅的意思）。
And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and gave over the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities; so the name of the place was called Hormah.
21:4 他們從何珥山起行，往紅海那條路走，要繞過以東地。百姓因這路難行，心中甚是煩躁，
From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom; and the people became impatient on the way.
21:5 就怨讟 神和摩西說：「你們為甚麼把我們從埃及領出來、使我們死在曠野呢？這裡沒有糧，沒有水，我們的心厭惡這淡薄的食物。」
And the people spoke against God and against Moses, "Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and we loathe this worthless food."
21:6 於是耶和華使火蛇進入百姓中間，蛇就咬他們。以色列人中死了許多。
Then the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people, so that many people of Israel died.
21:7 百姓到摩西那裡，說：「我們怨讟耶和華和你，有罪了。求你禱告耶和華，叫這些蛇離開我們。」於是摩西為百姓禱告。
And the people came to Moses, and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you; pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us." So Moses prayed for the people.
21:8 耶和華對摩西說：「你製造一條火蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被咬的，一望這蛇，就必得活。」
And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live."
21:9 摩西便製造一條銅蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被蛇咬的，一望這銅蛇就活了。
So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
21:10 以色列人起行，安營在阿伯。
And the people of Israel set out, and encamped in Oboth.
21:11 又從阿伯起行，安營在以耶•亞巴琳，與摩押相對的曠野，向日出之地。
And they set out from Oboth, and encamped at I'ye-ab'arim, in the wilderness which is opposite Moab, toward the sunrise.
21:12 從那裡起行，安營在撒烈谷。
From there they set out, and encamped in the Valley of Zered.
21:13 從那裡起行，安營在亞嫩河那邊。這亞嫩河是在曠野，從亞摩利的境界流出來的；原來亞嫩河是摩押的邊界，在摩押和亞摩利人搭界的地方。
From there they set out, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that extends from the boundary of the Amorites; for the Arnon is the boundary of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
21:14 所以耶和華的戰記上說：「蘇法的哇哈伯與亞嫩河的谷，
Wherefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, "Waheb in Suphah, and the valleys of the Arnon,
21:15 並向亞珥城眾谷的下坡，是靠近摩押的境界。」
and the slope of the valleys that extends to the seat of Ar, and leans to the border of Moab."
21:16 以色列人從那裡起行，到了比珥（比珥就是井的意思）。從前耶和華吩咐摩西說：「招聚百姓，我好給他們水喝」，說的就是這井。
And from there they continued to Beer; that is the well of which the LORD said to Moses, "Gather the people together, and I will give them water."
21:17 當時，以色列人唱歌說：井啊，湧上水來！你們要向這井歌唱。
Then Israel sang this song: "Spring up, O well! -- Sing to it! --
21:18 這井是首領和民中的尊貴人用圭用杖所挖所掘的。以色列人從曠野往瑪他拿去，
the well which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people delved with the scepter and with their staves."
21:19 從瑪他拿到拿哈列，從拿哈列到巴末，
and from Mat'tanah to Nahal'iel, and from Nahal'iel to Bamoth,
21:20 從巴末到摩押地的谷，又到那下望曠野之毘斯迦的山頂。
and from Bamoth to the valley lying in the region of Moab by the top of Pisgah which looks down upon the desert.
21:21 以色列人差遣使者去見亞摩利人的王西宏，說：
Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,
21:22 「求你容我們從你的地經過；我們不偏入田間和葡萄園，也不喝井裡的水，只走大道（原文作王道），直到過了你的境界。」
"Let me pass through your land; we will not turn aside into field or vineyard; we will not drink the water of a well; we will go by the King's Highway, until we have passed through your territory."
21:23 西宏不容以色列人從他的境界經過，就招聚他的眾民出到曠野，要攻擊以色列人，到了雅雜與以色列人爭戰。
But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his territory. He gathered all his men together, and went out against Israel to the wilderness, and came to Jahaz, and fought against Israel.
21:24 以色列人用刀殺了他，得了他的地，從亞嫩河到雅博河，直到亞捫人的境界，因為亞捫人的境界多有堅壘。
And Israel slew him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, as far as to the Ammonites; for Jazer was the boundary of the Ammonites.
21:25 以色列人奪取這一切的城邑，也住亞摩利人的城邑，就是希實本與希實本的一切鄉村。
And Israel took all these cities, and Israel settled in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages.
21:26 這希實本是亞摩利王西宏的京城；西宏曾與摩押的先王爭戰，從他手中奪取了全地，直到亞嫩河。
For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab and taken all his land out of his hand, as far as the Arnon.
21:27 所以那些作詩歌的說：你們來到希實本；願西宏的城被修造，被建立。
Therefore the ballad singers say, "Come to Heshbon, let it be built, let the city of Sihon be established.
21:28 因為有火從希實本發出，有火焰出於西宏的城，燒盡摩押的亞珥和亞嫩河邱壇的祭司（祭司原文作主）。
For fire went forth from Heshbon, flame from the city of Sihon. It devoured Ar of Moab, the lords of the heights of the Arnon.
21:29 摩押啊，你有禍了！基抹的民哪，你們滅亡了！基抹的男子逃奔，女子被擄，交付亞摩利的王西宏。
Woe to you, O Moab! You are undone, O people of Chemosh! He has made his sons fugitives, and his daughters captives, to an Amorite king, Sihon.
21:30 我們射了他們；希實本直到底本盡皆毀滅。我們使地變成荒場，直到挪法；這挪法直延到米底巴。
So their posterity perished from Heshbon, as far as Dibon, and we laid waste until fire spread to Med'eba."
21:31 這樣，以色列人就住在亞摩利人之地。
Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.
21:32 摩西打發人去窺探雅謝，以色列人就佔了雅謝的鎮市，趕出那裡的亞摩利人。
And Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took its villages, and dispossessed the Amorites that were there.
21:33 以色列人轉回，向巴珊去。巴珊王噩和他的眾民都出來，在以得來與他們交戰。
Then they turned and went up by the way to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan came out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Ed're-i.
21:34 耶和華對摩西說：「不要怕他！因我已將他和他的眾民，並他的地，都交在你手中；你要待他像從前待住希實本的亞摩利王西宏一般。」
But the LORD said to Moses, "Do not fear him; for I have given him into your hand, and all his people, and his land; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon."
21:35 於是他們殺了他和他的眾子，並他的眾民，沒有留下一個，就得了他的地。
So they slew him, and his sons, and all his people, until there was not one survivor left to him; and they possessed his land.
When the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the Negeb, heard that Israel was coming by the way of Atharim, he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.
21:2 以色列人向耶和華發願說：「你若將這民交付我手，我就把他們的城邑盡行毀滅。」
And Israel vowed a vow to the LORD, and said, "If thou wilt indeed give this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities."
21:3 耶和華應允了以色列人，把迦南人交付他們，他們就把迦南人和迦南人的城邑盡行毀滅。那地方的名便叫何珥瑪（何珥瑪就是毀滅的意思）。

And the people came to Moses, and said, "We have sinned, for we have spoken against the LORD and against you; pray to the LORD, that he take away the serpents from us." So Moses prayed for the people.
21:8 耶和華對摩西說：「你製造一條火蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被咬的，一望這蛇，就必得活。」
And the LORD said to Moses, "Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and every one who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live."
21:9 摩西便製造一條銅蛇，掛在杆子上；凡被蛇咬的，一望這銅蛇就活了。
So Moses made a bronze serpent, and set it on a pole; and if a serpent bit any man, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
21:10 以色列人起行，安營在阿伯。
And the people of Israel set out, and encamped in Oboth.
21:11 又從阿伯起行，安營在以耶•亞巴琳，與摩押相對的曠野，向日出之地。
And they set out from Oboth, and encamped at I'ye-ab'arim, in the wilderness which is opposite Moab, toward the sunrise.
21:12 從那裡起行，安營在撒烈谷。
From there they set out, and encamped in the Valley of Zered.
21:13 從那裡起行，安營在亞嫩河那邊。這亞嫩河是在曠野，從亞摩利的境界流出來的；原來亞嫩河是摩押的邊界，在摩押和亞摩利人搭界的地方。
From there they set out, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that extends from the boundary of the Amorites; for the Arnon is the boundary of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.
21:14 所以耶和華的戰記上說：「蘇法的哇哈伯與亞嫩河的谷，
Wherefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of the LORD, "Waheb in Suphah, and the valleys of the Arnon,
21:15 並向亞珥城眾谷的下坡，是靠近摩押的境界。」
