默想: 當押尼珥在猶大國被約押謀殺的消息傳回以色列國時，伊施波設嚇得手腳發軟，以色列人也感到恐慌。巴拿與利甲趁著伊施波設睡午覺時，進入其臥室把他謀殺，並且砍下首級，拿來向大衛王請功。他們還用耶和華的名來美化自己弒君的罪行。掃羅王雖然一生以追殺大衛為主要目標，但是，大衛對於掃羅王是耶和華所膏抹設立的君王，一直抱持尊重的態度，對於掃羅的後代，也是一樣。大衛王絕對不自己親手去向耶和華所膏立的君王報仇，他寧可禱告並等候耶和華，來為他伸冤。保羅勸羅馬教會說，親愛的弟兄，不要自己伸冤，寧可讓步，聽憑主怒（或作：讓人發怒）；因為經上記著：「主說：『伸冤在我；我必報應。』」(羅12:19)
題目: 巴拿、利甲原是伊施波設的軍長，卻手刃君主伊施波設，藉以投靠大衛。面對這樣「賄賂式暗殺」，試想，你若身處大衛的角色，你將如何分辨、處理？
題目: 押尼珥勸服以色列長老歸順大衛，結果卻在希伯崙被殺。但因大衛大肆哀悼並公開責備約押，眾民才知此事非大衛本意。試想，面對部屬間的衝突、紛爭，領袖要如何從中調解，並豎立自己的威信、名聲？(參閱提前3:7)
4:1 掃羅的兒子伊施波設聽見押尼珥死在希伯崙，手就發軟；以色列眾人也都驚惶
When Ish-bo'sheth, Saul's son, heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his courage failed, and all Israel was dismayed.
4:2 掃羅的兒子伊施波設有兩個軍長，一名巴拿，一名利甲，是便雅憫支派、比錄人臨門的兒子。比錄也屬便雅憫。
Now Saul's son had two men who were captains of raiding bands; the name of the one was Ba'anah, and the name of the other Rechab, sons of Rimmon a man of Benjamin from Be-er'oth (for Be-er'oth also is reckoned to Benjamin;
4:3 比錄人早先逃到基他音，在那裡寄居，直到今日。
the Be-er'othites fled to Gitta'im, and have been sojourners there to this day).
4:4 掃羅的兒子約拿單有一個兒子名叫米非波設，是瘸腿的。掃羅和約拿單死亡的消息從耶斯列傳到的時候，他才五歲。他乳母抱著他逃跑；因為跑得太急，孩子掉在地上，腿就瘸了。
Jonathan, the son of Saul, had a son who was crippled in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up, and fled; and, as she fled in her haste, he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephib'osheth.
4:5 一日，比錄人臨門的兩個兒子利甲和巴拿出去，約在午熱的時候到了伊施波設的家；伊施波設正睡午覺。
Now the sons of Rimmon the Be-er'othite, Rechab and Ba'anah, set out, and about the heat of the day they came to the house of Ish-bo'sheth, as he was taking his noonday rest.
4:6 他們進了房子，假作要取麥子，就刺透伊施波設的肚腹，逃跑了。
And behold, the doorkeeper of the house had been cleaning wheat, but she grew drowsy and slept; so Rechab and Ba'anah his brother slipped in.
4:7 他們進房子的時候，伊施波設正在臥房裡躺在床上，他們將他殺死，割了他的首級，拿著首級在亞拉巴走了一夜，
When they came into the house, as he lay on his bed in his bedchamber, they smote him, and slew him, and beheaded him. They took his head, and went by the way of the Arabah all night,
4:8 將伊施波設的首級拿到希伯崙見大衛王，說：「王的仇敵掃羅曾尋索王的性命。看哪，這是他兒子伊施波設的首級；耶和華今日為我主我王在掃羅和他後裔的身上報了仇。」
and brought the head of Ish-bo'sheth to David at Hebron. And they said to the king, "Here is the head of Ish-bo'sheth, the son of Saul, your enemy, who sought your life; the LORD has avenged my lord the king this day on Saul and on his offspring."
4:9 大衛對比錄人臨門的兒子利甲和他兄弟巴拿說：「我指著救我性命脫離一切苦難、永生的耶和華起誓：
But David answered Rechab and Ba'anah his brother, the sons of Rimmon the Be-er'othite, "As the LORD lives, who has redeemed my life out of every adversity,
4:10 從前有人報告我說，掃羅死了，他自以為報好消息；我就拿住他，將他殺在洗革拉，這就作了他報消息的賞賜。
when one told me, `Behold, Saul is dead,' and thought he was bringing good news, I seized him and slew him at Ziklag, which was the reward I gave him for his news.
4:11 何況惡人將義人殺在他的床上，我豈不向你們討流他血的罪、從世上除滅你們呢？」
How much more, when wicked men have slain a righteous man in his own house upon his bed, shall I not now require his blood at your hand, and destroy you from the earth?"
4:12 於是大衛吩咐少年人將他們殺了，砍斷他們的手腳，掛在希伯崙的池旁，卻將伊施波設的首級葬在希伯崙押尼珥的墳墓裡。
And David commanded his young men, and they killed them, and cut off their hands and feet, and hanged them beside the pool at Hebron. But they took the head of Ish-bo'sheth, and buried it in the tomb of Abner at Hebron.
When Ish-bo'sheth, Saul's son, heard that Abner had died at Hebron, his courage failed, and all Israel was dismayed.
